As a child, my parents packed us kids into our blue Chevy station wagon and drove across the Great Plains to explore the National Parks of the West. Those trips sparked my lifelong love of our parks. I dreamed of becoming a Park Ranger, and in time, my wife Sandy and I began working in them. We planned to move from park to park, but once we arrived at Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, we knew we’d found home. Today, I’ve left my ranger post to guide visitors on private, custom hikes. It’s my joy to share with you and your group the ecology, history, and geology of the world’s most active volcano.
